Mr. Shaw received his A.B. in Physics from Cornell in 1976 and a Master's Degree in Engineering Physics from Cornell in 1977. He graduated cum laude from Georgetown in 1981, where he was on law review, and then clerked two years for Giles Rich. His career started with representation of clients before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and has since been increasingly involved in litigation and counseling. He is currently a partner in the Washington, D.C. office of Dewey Ballantine LLP.


Throughout his career Mr. Shaw has been a frequent lecturer and instructor on patents. He has been an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Georgetown University Law Center for the past fifteen years. He has also spoken on patent topics to the ABA, AIPLA, the Bar Association for the District of Columbia, and the Rochester Intellectual Property Association. He has also been a lecturer for the Patent Resources Group and the Japan Intellectual Property Association.
